What Customers Say About Dremel 290-05 120-Volt Industrial Engraver:

The Dremel is easily the highest quality, and best value. However I think I will get used to it, and it seems obvious that it will last much, much longer then either of the other engravers I have used in the past. I have used Inscriblio engravers, poor quality chinese engravers, and now this Dremel engraver. My only complaint is that it's size and shape make it harder to use then the other light weight engravers.

My engraver will be going back, and I do not think I will be purchasing any more Dremel products in the near future. The set screw is just fine, but the metal that was threaded for it to go into is made of a metal so soft that it cannot withstand a single turn of the set screw that is essential to hold the diamond tip in place. I was a little miffed, but just walked over to a benchtop polishing wheel to remove a small amount of steel from the tool so that it would fit in the screw for which it was made. If you already have one, with a soft metal housing for the diamond tip, you might wish to try some Locktite on the set screw and perhaps even the diamond tip where it contacts the soft metal housing. On the very first tool, after engraving the serial number, the diamond tip began to loosen and slip out.

Be sure to take note of the different strengths of Locktite so that the bottle or tube you buy will be effective. When I returned to the engraver to tighten the set screw the tool fit perfectly, and with one turn the screw, all the threads stripped out of the tool, not off the set screw. I reached for the included little wrench with a standard screwdriver tip on one end to tighten the set screw that holds the diamond tip in the tool. I bought this engraver to mark all of my tools with serial numbers and my name. I tried to use the screwdriver tip to tighten the slotted set screw and quickly discovered that the provided tool was too thick to fit into the groove in the set screw.

I'm still rather incredulous that this tool would be made so poorly; perhaps they had a bad batch that got out on the market.

I have only used this tool a few times, but it has worked very well.I was surprised at how thick of a piece of metal it will make a cut in.

glad i own it. I am using the diamond tip with it. great little unit. works on all metals including saw blades and router bits. powerfull and not too loud.
